Fairy Tales: A Grimm Reality
It's pertinent to say that Fairy Tales have an extraordinarily high entertainment value. Nevertheless, what is it that provides these stories with the likes of being so accepted by the populace at the time; and continued to be told for generations to come? The Grimm brothers have developed a formula that has clearly been proven to succeed the test of time. Even prior to the tales being 'fixed' it was evident that the work of the Grimm brothers bewitched the young readers. As the stories developed softer, sweeter, and more acceptable tones the overall tales became primly more moral. The details differ in each tale, but in most of 'em, the good guys win and the bad guys are punished. It sounds stale until you start looking at who's good, who's bad, and why. A downtrodden protagonist that goes through trials via with the neccessary help of a companion/ helper, and finally the epic final confrontation with the antagonist. Mainly it's safe to say that the Fairy Tale's of the Grimm brothers follow the formula of the much appreciated Hero's journey.
